Esteban Ocon will not race for Haas again this season, with the team confirming on Tuesday that Formula 2 championship leader Rafael Camara will replace him for the remainder of the campaign.
The decision comes after Ocon was dropped ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, with reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa taking his place following Friday's practice sessions. “We have now notified Esteban Ocon that he will not return to a race seat with Haas this season. Such decisions are never made lightly, as was the case in Mexico City. But then, as now, we feel this is firmly in the best interest of the team moving forward,” team principal Ayao Komatsu said in a statement.

“The conversations that ultimately unfolded between the team and Esteban remain an internal matter, and we will continue to respect the private nature of closed-door situations.”
Haas had already confirmed last month that Ocon would leave the team at the end of the season after two years with the outfit. Brazilian youngster Camara was subsequently announced as his replacement for 2027. However, the team's decision to end Ocon's racing duties early has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding his withdrawal in Mexico City. Haas have not provided further details, although reports have linked the move to an alleged disagreement between Ocon and Komatsu.
The reported fallout stemmed from Ocon's frustration with the team's decision to run him on medium tyres rather than softs during Friday's second practice session at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The Frenchman was heard telling his race engineer, Laura Mueller, over team radio: "Don't do this to me." French newspaper L'Equipe subsequently reported that a meeting between Komatsu and Ocon "ended abruptly, perhaps even physically".
Ocon later issued a statement firmly rejecting suggestions of physical violence during the disagreement. "I categorically reject any reports or allegations suggesting that any form of physical violence was used to resolve any differences of any nature," he said.
The Frenchman acknowledged, however, that "a difference in viewpoints led to a discussion with the parties involved". Meanwhile, Hirakawa made the most of his opportunity in Mexico City, finishing 10th to score a point in his first race appearance for Haas. However, the Japanese driver has existing commitments in the World Endurance Championship this coming weekend, opening the door for Camara to make his Formula 1 debut earlier than initially planned at his home race.
Ocon has competed in 198 Grands Prix since making his Formula 1 debut in 2016 and has one race victory to his name. However, with his departure from Haas already confirmed, his immediate future in the sport remains uncertain. The Frenchman is understood to be exploring the possibility of securing a reserve driver role to remain involved in the F1 paddock, particularly with most teams having already finalised their driver line-ups for 2027. Racing Bulls and Cadillac are among the teams that could have vacancies, although reports suggest neither is currently interested in signing Ocon.
Haas, meanwhile, have yet to confirm their driver line-up for the final three races of the season in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
